WHAT IS JAPAN MUSIC WEEK? (NOV 8-14, 2010)
Japan Music Week (JMW) is Tokyo’s biggest grassroots style annual international music showcase festival and convention, covering all kinds of music genres, industry sectors and regions. Last year JMW involved over 300 artists from 20 countries at 40 venues, with over 10,000 attendees.
Now in its second year JMW will continue to grow as a ‘community’ style festival, showcasing the best emerging artists and new music, in every genre from hiphop, techno, rock and pop, to folk, classical and jazz. This year, JMW will feature as many as 500 artists and DJs from dozens of countries and from cities around Japan at as many as 200 events. Please join and help JMW become one of Japan’s (and Asia’s) biggest events in the international music industry calendar within the next five years.
With the JMW wristband on any evening during 8-14 Nov 2010 you’ll be able to follow our event guide maps to stroll around between multiple events and appreciate the best of Tokyo/International underground culture, and enjoy a musical tour of the city at the fraction of the normal cost. (At least 100 of our events will be ‘green’ – free to wristband holders. Other, ‘red, ‘ events will offer discounted access.)
JMW wristbands will be on sale priced 2500 yen in advance or 3000 yen on the day to access almost 100 events, mostly for free and some for a discount ! Please purchase weekly discount wristbands or single event tickets directly from each event organizer, performer, or participating venue. Mail us at info@japanmusicweek.com if you have any questions.

Merits for Artists
We will try to help each visiting artist perform in at least 3 events at JMW during 8-14 November. It’s a showcase festival so you will not be paid to play, but there may be ways to sell merchandise or help sell tickets to generate income. You’ll have chances to meet music industry including labels, distribution, event companies and venues who may be able to help fund your future trips or releases in Japan. You will also get exposure to various audiences and media to start creating your own fan-base here. Also playing in Japan – the world’s second biggest music market, is a good way to highlight your achievements and gain extra attention back in your home territory, as well as being a lot of fun.
