Dub Ninja aka Daniel Sommariva was born in Canberra - Australia, musically trained from an early age and began performing in bands in 1994. In 1998 he was introduced to dub/reggae and formed a dub reggae band (Agency Dub Collective) along with 2 others although at the time the dub side was still very experimental and a lot of genre mixing was happening in the songs. By the turn of the millennium ADC released an independently produced analog EP which showed elements of dub but again not over your traditional reggae riddims. Since this time many of the recordings that followed for the next 8 years or so would be self produced (due to the cost of working in a real studio, and wanting to be 100% in control of the post production) and with the increase of technology available, Dub Ninja began writing, recording and mixing a lot of the tracks for ADC. Many years went into producing albums and in 2004 Dub Ninja made his first solo (very) experimental dub EP. As the year progressed and he became more and more immersed in the dub reggae culture he began producing more tracks and made an unofficial album in 2005. Only 100 copies were made and they were all given away for free. He did his first performance as a producer/DJ in 2005. Since then he has written hundreds of tunes (including other genres) and done many gigs throughout Australia and Japan. He has no official solo releases and often gives away his original riddims on hand made cd's as gifts or online as mp3's. After 10 years of research and development he has a broad understanding and respect for dub culture and is not afraid to push the boundaries although he agrees that those that try to innovate sound can only get so far inna capitalistic commercial world. Dub techniques, heavy sub bass and sound system culture are considered to be sacred and pure. His influences come from love, culture and life. Space is the place, less is more...
